Why this (or any) Stoic Journaling program?

Tanner Campbell

Stoic journaling helps you slow down, think clearly, and live with purpose. By reflecting on your choices each week, you become more resilient, self-aware, and aligned with the values that matter most.

But not all Stoic programs are created equal

This one is guided by me, Tanner Campbell — public philosopher of Stoicism, author of What Is Stoicism?, and host of the Practical Stoicism podcast, downloaded over 5 million times. I created this program for people who want real character growth, not social media soundbites or performative self-help.

Each weekly prompt is grounded in Stoic ethics and cosmology. You'll learn by doing — and grow through consistent reflection and a like-minded community.

How the program works

Every week, on a recurring schedule that you set, you'll get a new journaling prompt via your account. Each prompt is rooted in Stoic teachings. It comes with a short explanation or story to inspire your writing and, of course, a direct prompt for you to respond to. You write in your own private journal (offline, no need to stare at a screen) whenever you find time.

On the last Sunday of each month, join author and philosopher Tanner Campbell live with your fellow journalers. Tanner will dive deeper into that month's theme, answer your questions, and invite members to share insights. It's like a virtual Stoic meetup with friends.

As a member, you get access to articles and mini-lessons that you won't find on Tanner's public podcast or blog. These writings tackle common challenges (anger, fear, distractions) with Stoic strategies. They're perfect companions to your journaling.

Our web platform allows you to leave comments under each weekly prompt (totally optional, but highly encouraged!). Here you can share an insight or a struggle, and read others' responses. Tanner also chimes in, guiding discussions when needed. In addition, you can message any time if you have questions or need guidance.

Life happens – if you miss a week or join late, it doesn't matter. You only get the next prompt when you request it. That means if you miss three weeks, the next prompt you request will be the next in the sequence – no matter how long you waited to retrieve it. Also live calls are recorded and available in the archive for view on demand when needed.
